I am *this* close to getting a bicycle. I have been looking up cycling info for Alameda, and there are a lot of local groups and resources. While I am still not too thrilled at the thought of my ginormous butt on a bicycle seat, the point of riding the bike instead of driving everywhere is to hopefully help reduce the size of that butt, so I will just suffer the embarrassment ^^; I joined a local cycling club that has evening and weekend rides for all ages/skills. Membership gets you a discount on bicycles and equipment at most of the shops in town, so once my membership card arrives, off I go. Whee....

YaoiCon is coming up, and I finally got my registration mailed in at the last minute before the deadline ^^ I am looking forward to the con. I wish I had some sort of Chintsubu item (other than my copy of the manga -- which I hope to get signed). I might try making something also. I dunno. Whatever it is, it will probably be disturbing :D I do have some paper mache and plaster bandages... hmm....

The Olympics plug along, but most of the events I am interested in are over. I get so tired watching all the swimming events- they give me flashbacks to my years on swim teams @_@ My main event was the 500 freestyle. The thought of butterfly or Individual Medley makes me shiver, lol :) For a while I was stuck racing backstroke, but I always ended up hugging the lane lines. Anyway, any time I watch swimming events, I feel sort of tired ^^;

Most of today's spam headlines involve "BREAKING NEWS". How exciting! I found a ton of these today, most were boring, but some were mildly amusing:

BREAKING NEWS: Scientists prepare to colonize redneck area
BREAKING NEWS: Police raid Donut City
BREAKING NEWS: London Mayor gets nipple caught in ringer (uh...)
BREAKING NEWS: US Dollar hits 6-year high, further gains expected
BREAKING NEWS: Al Gore gave yet another speech about the planet or something
BREAKING NEWS: Americans love lawsuits for breakfast (I prefer eggs, actually...)
BREAKING NEWS: Royals become first sports team to sponsor gay guy
BREAKING NEWS: McCain endorses Bush for a 3rd term
BREAKING NEWS: Is Gay Bishop Gay Enough? (that sounds like a doujinshi title right there...)

Fight breaks out between Britney's breasts (BETWEEN THEM? really?)
Chinese Olympic Officials finally figure out how to stop Michael Phelps (finally, olympic headlines...)

Is it sad that instead of "spam" up above, I originally typed "smap"?

I continue to be sad that Kinokuniya raised their manga prices ;_;

I have been thinking about getting a bicycle (yeah, I think about a lot of crap I never actually do, lol) for both health reasons (exercise is good, I am sooo lazy!) and because Alameda is so small, I feel bad driving my car around it ^_^; I looked at craigslist to see if there were any decent deals on used bikes, but there were no noticeably great listings. I may check some of the yard/estate sales going on here this weekend to see if any of them have a bicycles. Er, not that I am sure where I would store a bicycle, but one thing at a time...

Oh, last week I made a medley of dorama theme songs that I like. I don't think I posted it here, so if you are bored, enjoy :)

I am disappointed in the spam email headlines from over the weekend. You'd think with the Olympics, they would have some great headlines.

These are the best I could find:

Theodore Roosevelt Was a Gay Man
footpath remedial aroma missle huron
Obama Is Anorexic Over-Exerciser
Britney Clothed Photo Fury (I guess it IS shocking when she is actually CLOTHED)

Rather uninspiring. Come on spammers...

Recently, I have had a few calls at both my work number and my cell number from an unknown caller. When I pick up, I get a recorded message talking about how my car warranty is about to expire, this is my last chance to reinstate it, blahblahblah. They give you the option of pressing 1 to talk to an agent and 2 to remove yourself from the list. I just hung up on it, as it just screamed 'fraud!' to me. Sooo shady, so out of curiousity I googled the phone number the call came from and found a bunch of 'who-just-called-me?' types of websites full of posts from people talking about similar calls from that number. Such as this one or this one. I am glad that lots of people are realizing it is a scam. I am somewhat amused at some of the reports of the rude comments from the phone agents. Once again I miss my fraud investigation tools that I used to have at Dell. I love digging deeper into stuff like this.

Dr Horrible
Wah, I envy [info]alexclau who went to that Dragons game and then to Koushien the other day! Reading his and Dom's accounts of the event makes me really want to go~ (Or to go to a baseball game in general. It has been ages since I have been to one! :)

I am a dork, so I ordered myself a Dr. Horrible t-shirt. I got it in the mail yesterday, and it's great. Very appropriately cheezy :D The company that sells the t-shirts also sells a really cool pirate "Yaarrrrnnnn" t-shirt too. I didn't realize it until after the Dr Horrible shirt shipped though >_< Doh, missed the chance to combine shipping. I will get that shirt eventually...

Brrrrrrrr.....

Gahhh my office is freeeeezing this morning! Apparently we have an electrical short and as a result of short, we are experiencing the extreme cold, as the air condition is set to run in default mode. This means that we have no thermostat control, oh and no hot water. Good thing I keep an extra sweater in my cube, but I think I am gonna have to dig out my gloves soon if things don't improve. >_<

spam fake headlines from mails received over the weekend:

Girl gang rapes fellow male classmate (really? all by herself?)
Shia lebouf arrested for child prostitution
Arnold Schwartzenegger quits as Governer
horses for loan
Dark Knight movie out on DVD
Air Force One crashes in Iraq!
Scientists create prosthetic brain (can I wear my prosthetic forehead over my prosthetic brain?)

Mmm, I have had the most lazy weekend ever. I had almost zero motivation to even move ^^; I did manage to get my ass out of bed at 5:45 Saturday morning and over to the laundromat by 6am and get all my laundry done. I like doing my laundry at 6am because there is almost never anyone else there, and I can take up a bunch of machines and not have to compete or wait for dryers.

But once I got my laundry done and home and put away or hung up, all willpower to do much of anything else fled. I have been trying to set up an after-work evening walk schedule with my cousin, but after waiting for too long for her to reply back to me about what days would be good for her, she texts me to say 'hey wow, I'm pregnant!' Well that is great news for her (this will be baby #3 for her and her husband, I am happy for them!) it messes up my plans to walk more in the evenings ^_^ . I am better at exercising when I have an obligation/schedule to keep ^_^ Oh well, I will keep trying on my own. :)

I have a bad habit of planning to do things, and then talking myself out of it at the last minute -_- I was thinking of maybe hitting the Alameda Point Antiques and Collectibles Faire, which is this HUGE (like 10,000 attendees or something) flea market that is held the first Sunday of every month over where the naval base used to be (the one that housed the "nuclear wessels") but then I looked at my bank account, still hurting from AX, and talked myself out of it. I think I will try for next month instead, when I will hopefully be a bit more recovered. It looks like a great show. I think they sell a little bit of everything ever made, lol.

So blah, I just watched some anime and drama instead. *sigh*. I watched the first 5 episodes of La Seine no Hoshi (that Zorro meets rose of versailles anime) caught the latest episodes of Itazura na Kiss, Shugo Chara, and Ryoko's Case Files. Ryoko's Case files is my favorite show of the summer season. The relationship between Ryoko and Izumida is hilarious. I love them.

Also, this made me laugh )

Kinokuniya has raised the price of their imported manga from about $5.60 to about $6.20 per volume. Blah, won't be going there anymore. I am better off just mail ordering from BK1. *sigh* Not that I need to buy any more manga anytime soon, lol :)

Heh, I was poking at my stupid Amazon wishlist when I noticed that Golion has been released on DVD. Awesome! I have wanted to see the original non-voltron Golion for a while :D

I have had the Yamato theme song stuck in my head all day -_-;

Google still the best....

  • Jul. 28th, 2008 at 3:30 PM
Hmm
Hmm, I am not liking the new Cuil search engine all that much. The interface is pretty, but the search results are not that great, and I don't like how they will take images from one person's site and use them for thumbnails for other sites in the same page of search results regardless of if they are actually related.

For example, I have my webcomic "Strange Candy". It started in 2001. Several years later, Laurell K Hamilton went and wrote a book that is also called Strange Candy (grrr). Doing a search on Cuil for that term will, of course, bring up results that point to links that refer to my comic or her book. However, the thumbnails are all messed up. There are thumbnails of my characters or my comic pages next to article results about her book. Heck, the Strange Candy wikipedia link has a thumbnail for megatokyo. Then there are a few links to my comic with thumbnails of her book cover next to them. *sigh*

Doing a search for "shoujo" manga on google usually brings up my site as the #2 result after the wikipedia article. It is also a main result on cuil, but thumbnails of various manga covers I scanned are being used for all the other unaffiliated search results too -_- Blaaahhhh...

Greetings, Programs!

US athletes banned from Beijing Olympics
Sarah Jessica Parker arrested for gross negligee
Qantas Airlines Crashes in LAX
Osama caught sodomizing lieutenants
Meanest Kitty in America
McCain supports idea that Obama is muslim
Justin Timberlake gay video (oh?)
Christian Bale in coma after car crash

Today's top spam headlines...

Afghanistan set to be 51st US state
Children admit to being little shits. Video:
Mike Tyson to fight Michael Jackson
The Incredible Hulk: George Bush
Angelina Jolie pregnancy a hoax!

I seriously have nothing more interesting to post these days ^_^ I have been watching a lot of dramas, some anime, reading through my mountain of manga from AX.

I have been working on building my collection of older anime. Someone recently posted a complete raw set of Goldran, a 90's show that includes a giant bunny mecha, Usarin M. II, piloted by princess Shalala...it's great stuff. Had to get that.

My World Masterpiece Theater collection grows, and I finally found raws of La Seine no Hoshi, that great 70's anime about Simone, the younger sister of Marie Antoinette, who fights injustice during the French Revolution while wearing a Sailor V mask, a cape, a beret (but of course), and hotpants. It's like Rose of Versailles meets Zorro. I don't know if they had hotpants during the French revolution, but she works them well, lol. I wish someone would sub it :) It appears to have been dubbed into every language except English.

That's about it. I want to see the Dark Knight, but I haven't seen the first batman movie yet (oops).

The recent news of a possible Cowboy Bebop live action movie has me a little nervous. Considering how Bebop ended, I seriously doubt that a Hollywood movie version will be very faithful. Well, who knows. It would be cool if they brough in Yoko Kanno though ^_^ This means I will have to update my poor Bebop website.

I am working on some artwork that I really like (so far) but the coloring is taking a while. I will post it when I am done.

I look forward to a weekend of doing not a whole lot.I should probably get my anime dvd reviews done @_@ Must not procrastinate...

Those pesky nazi toddlers...

Ouji-sama
Yay, more amusing spam headlines from this emailbox I monitor at work. This box gets many thousands of emails a day, and a good chunk of it is spam. The spam headlines sort of go in cycles. For a few weeks all I will get are viagra/cialis ads, then stuff about some sort of sale "Discount 80%!" then the usual Angelina Jolie sex video spam. Right now the spammers are having a lot of fun making up fake news and entertainment headlines.

Here are some mof the more interesting ones from this week:

Nazi toddlers ruined my birthday
Jesus Christ to star in next series of Big Brother
Myanmar declares hate for Australians
Lindsay Lohan would do nude scene for Oscar
X-files film bombs at box office
Will Smith files for bankruptcy
AMERO to replace Dollar!
James Bond to have Gay lover in new film
Nation mourns the tragic loss of britney spears
Angelina Jolie and Madonna compete for adoption of Jamie Lynn Spears Baby
Patrick Swayze suicide after cancer news
Snake swallows horse!
Cindy McCain talks about her boobs
You are in mafia blacklist
Flu Outbreak kills thousands in Mexico
How is Will Farrell this week?
Tom Cruise falls from horse, breaks back
Serial Killer loves to party

And after any major disaster, I get a bunch of spam messages that follow up on it, saying things are even worse. Like '10,000 die in china earthquake aftershock!'

I wonder if people actually click on these?
